BIGSMACK Adds Kevin Lahr as Director of Production

Continuing their aggressive corporate growth plan for 2012, BIGSMACK, the entertainment marketing and creative agency led by Chief Creative Andy Hann and Head of Marketing Andrew Kobliska, has added yet another piece to its creative staff with the addition of Kevin Lahr as executive producer/director of production. Lahr joins BIGSMACK following five-plus years at Discovery Communications where he worked at the cable giant’s flagship Discovery Channel, as well as Science Channel and Investigation Discovery.

Hann first met Lahr back in late 2006 when he hired him as a producer at Concrete Pictures.

“I feel very fortunate to be working with Kevin again,” Hann says. “He brings an enormous amount of production knowledge that I know will benefit both BIGSMACK and our clients. Beyond that, his experience on the network side will also help reassure our clients that we understand their needs and the pressures they face in their marketing and branding projects.” 

Originally from the Philly area, Lahr began his career as an agency producer at New York-based shops Griffin Bacal and D’arcy, before taking a huge left turn to become a producer at Shoot NZ Film Company in Queenstown, New Zealand. Lahr later returned to the United States as an executive producer at PBS headquarters in Arlington, Va. Following three years at PBS, he joined Hann at Concrete Pictures in 2006, leaving in 2007 to join Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Md.

Regarding his decision to join BIGSMACK, Lahr noted that he was ready for a change and anxious to use his “client-side experience” for a vendor like BIGSMACK, especially with Hann at the helm.

“Andy reached out to me and the timing was perfect,” Lahr says. “I thought my skills and experience were perfectly suited for BIGSMACK. In addition to the day-to-day production challenges, my experience on the client-side will help BIGSMACK navigate the networks waters, because I have a personal understanding and appreciation for what clients need from their creative partners.”

Lahr added that networks such as Discovery need to know their vendors not only think strategically with their creative concepts but also have the production and postproduction firepower to get projects done on time and on budget.

“BIGSMACK’s enormous production arm gives clients the confidence that we can handle their largest and most challenging assignments with ease,” Lahr adds. “I see my role at BIGSMACK as being a perfect counter balance to Andy and what he does so well on the creative side. My role is to bring that same level of production service to our clients, that Andy brings on the creative front.”
